Consultation + Training

Good training strengthens a clinician’s capacity to be more effective with their patients.

Becoming a therapist is hard. You deserve high quality mentorship, guidance, and support.

If you've taken a class or course with me related to Control Mastery Theory and enjoyed learning about case conceptualization principles, but struggled to put formulation into practice, I offer consultation services to help therapists be more effective with their patients.

Grounded in San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group’s Plan Formulation Method, case consultation orients you to be most responsive to the patient sitting in front of you, and offers a welcome reprieve from highly abstracted or intervention-first approaches.

Plan Formulation Method consultation helps steer your practice towards identifying pathogenic beliefs, fluency around testing, and tailoring your treatment attitude.

I'm especially interested in helping therapists identify their default attitude, and how one’s particular interests, aptitudes, and experiences shape which patients and challenges you're naturally “pro-plan” for, and what sort of cases pose unique challenges.

Clinicians coming from a diverse range of theoretical orientations can easily integrate Control Mastery Theory’s conceptualization framework into their practice.

So, whether you’re more psychodynamically inclined or lean more towards behaviorism, this way of thinking about cases plays well with an array of approaches.

Training

I have the privilege of teaching a graduate level course on psychodynamic theory in the Counseling Psychology Department at Dominican University of California.

The course covers the concepts and techniques associated with Attachment, Object Relations, Self-Psychology, Control Mastery, Intersubjective, and Relational theories.

Additionally, I’m an active member and teacher with the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group, and offer workshops, seminars and continuing education related to the theory and practice of Control Mastery Theory, an integrated cognitive-psychodynamic-relational psychotherapy model.
